Seaton Regeneration Area Plan :: The Outline Planning Proposal
What are the proposals and how will Seaton benefit?
Tourism Investment
The closure of Lyme Bay Holiday Village does not mean the end of tourism in Seaton. The whole package (including the Seaton Wetland Nature Reserve) aims to enable Seaton to compete effectively in the South West tourism industry.
A major benefit of the scheme is that the developer will make a significant capital contribution towards the creation of a new Seaton Wetland Nature Reserve, Jurassic Coast Visitors’ Centre, community facilities and public square.
The Jurassic Coast Visitors’ Centre is expected to attract some 250,000 visitors per annum. These visitors are expected to spend some £4.125 million per annum in the Seaton economy. Thus the contribution made by the scheme to the Visitors’ Centre is a significant economic/ regeneration benefit. Development of the scheme will deliver funds to create a Visitors’ Centre.
The Council’s proposals for the nature reserve will attract 30,000 additional new tourists to the area injecting a projected further £500,000 into the local economy each year.
With the change in visitor numbers and raised expectations, newer upmarket accommodation is needed, hence the proposals for a new hotel in the south east corner of the site, adjacent to the River Axe.
